Common VLAN configuration errors that 90% of people have made
VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) is relatively simple to configure in Huawei eNSP simulator, but some common configuration errors are always prone to occur in actual operation. Today we will review the seven most common pitfalls in VLAN configuration to see if you have encountered them!
1. VLAN is not assigned to the correct port
Problem: VLAN is created, but the corresponding port is not added to the VLAN, resulting in communication failure
2. Port mode setting error
Problem: The port is not set to the correct mode, and VLAN data cannot be passed when connected to the switch in Access mode.
Correct approach:
Access mode: Connect terminal devices.
Trunk mode: Connect links between switches.
3. VLAN is not in the Trunk allowed list
Problem: The Trunk port does not add the relevant VLAN to the allowed list, resulting in the inability to transmit VLAN data.
4. The VLAN interface is not configured with an IP address
Problem: The VLANIF interface is not configured with an IP address, resulting in the VLAN network being unreachable.
5. The link between switches is not enabled in Trunk mode
Problem: The link between switches is in Access mode by default, and Trunk mode is not enabled, resulting in the inability to transmit multi-VLAN data.
6. VLAN is not enabled on the switch
Problem: The VLAN is created, but not enabled or the port is not added to the VLAN.
7. DHCP configuration error
Problem: VLAN needs to obtain IP address dynamically through DHCP, but the correct DHCP server is not configured.
