The State Council deploys to promote speed and fee reduction, and operators on the road to benefit the country and enterprises spare no effort

Following the “Government Work Report” deploying work related to “network speed-up and fee reduction” for five consecutive years, on April 7, Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council hosted an executive meeting of the State Council to deploy and continuously promote network speed-up and fee-reduction and other matters, requiring improvements in network and service quality .

In the continuous promotion of network speed and fee reduction actions, operators have spared no effort to implement them. In 2020, the speed and fees will be increased by about 46 billion yuan. In 2021, network speed and fee reduction will be further promoted, network and service quality will be improved, and 5G and Gigabit optical will be promoted. Net construction.

Speed up and fee reduction focus on four aspects of work

The executive meeting of the State Council listed four tasks, mainly related to advancing the construction and application of 5G and gigabit optical networks, guiding telecom companies to further reduce fees, and rectifying behaviors such as monopoly of broadband access and forced price increase in commercial buildings.

The meeting requested to vigorously promote the construction and application of 5G and gigabit optical networks. Carry out gigabit optical network upgrades and home-to-home transformation, and promote cities to basically have fixed and mobile "Gigabit-to-home" capabilities. This year, the gigabit optical network will cover more than 200 million households.

The "speed up and fee reduction" has been implemented for six years, and this year is the seventh year. Relevant data show that the three major operators have made nearly 500 billion yuan in profits since 2015. In terms of network speed increase, during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the proportion of fiber optic users increased from 34% to 93%, and the proportion of 4G users rose from 7.6% to 81%, which was much higher than the global average.

In terms of tariff decline, the average tariff of my country's fixed broadband and mobile phone traffic has dropped by more than 95%, and various measures have benefited more than 1 billion communication users each year. The tangible actions taken by the operators have effectively improved the sense of gain among the people.

Speed increase and fee reduction directly drive a substantial increase in traffic consumption. As of March this year, the average mobile Internet access traffic of 5G users is about 50% higher than that of 4G users. The unit price of 5G traffic has dropped to 4.4 yuan per GB, a 46% drop in the past two years. In 2020, the monthly average monthly user traffic (DOU) of mobile Internet reached 10.35GB, which was more than twice that of 2018.

In 2021, network speed and fee reduction will be further promoted

The starting gun for speed increase and fee reduction in 2021 has been fired. On the basis of further reduction of fees, operators have taken multiple measures to reduce the production and operation costs of enterprises through technology empowerment such as big data and "cloud".

China Telecom is carrying out the enterprise cloud operation at the same time as the speed-up and benefiting enterprises. It has launched preferential services of "broadband + cloud + application", and provided free experience of cloud products such as cloud conferences, cloud hosts, and cloud desktops, reducing broadband and dedicated lines Tariff and the threshold and usage cost of digital transformation of SMEs.

While "reducing fees", operators are accelerating "new infrastructure" to ensure that there are enough resources to "speed up." Among them, China Telecom is accelerating the deployment of 5G SA, expanding 5G coverage from urban areas to counties and developed towns, and further strengthening the depth of urban areas. In 2021, the Gigabit optical network will cover key urban areas. At the same time, deepen the integration of cloud and network, integrate many new technological innovation elements such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and big data into the new 5G infrastructure to create a new type of digital infrastructure.

In 2021, operators will further promote 5G co-construction and sharing, which is good news for consumers, which is conducive to better 5G signal coverage and better service to the people.
