Qualcomm, Ericsson and OPPO achieve Europe's first 5G SA network commercialization

According to foreign media reports, OPPO, Ericsson and Qualcomm recently announced that they have commercialized Vodafone’s 5G SA network in Germany.

On the one hand, Ericsson provided products and solutions to help Vodafone build its 5G SA network in Germany. On the other hand, OPPO worked closely with Qualcomm to use the Find X3 series of smartphones supported by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform for network development and testing.

The smartphone manufacturer said that since November 2020, the company has cooperated with Vodafone Germany, Qualcomm Technologies and Ericsson to test 5G at multiple locations in three cities: Dusseldorf, Münster, and Leipzig SA network, this will be the first European cities to cover 5G SA network.

Gerhard Mack, CTO of Vodafone Germany, said: "Our 3.5GHz band 5G network is now completely independent of LTE technology. In the initial available location, 10 to 15 milliseconds delay time can be achieved. As we will more and more 5G The facilities are put into operation, and these ultra-low delay times are gradually benefiting consumers across Germany."

5G has three major network capabilities: large bandwidth, high reliability, and low latency. The 5G SA mode can bring all 5G network features and functions. Therefore, it is considered to be the final direction of 5G commercial use.
