Wu Hequan analyzes the misunderstanding of 5G in the industrial Internet application: the need to develop a new 5G2B architecture
At the summit forum of the "Fifth Future Network Development Conference" held in Nanjing, Jiangsu on June 17, Wu Hequan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a speech entitled "From 5G2C to 5G2B". He pointed out that directly moving the 5G2C architecture to 5G2B will not meet the needs of enterprise intranet and integration with OT. We need to develop a new 5G2B architecture to support low-latency, high-reliability, and high-security applications in enterprise networks.
Academician Wu Hequan analyzed that there are two major misunderstandings in the development of the industrial Internet: "top-heavy" and "avoid the heavy-weight". Among them, "top-heavy" refers to avoiding the difficulty of collecting on-site data in vertical industry enterprises, and focusing on the corporate brain and platform, but the corporate brain only collects the underlying statistical data and external data, and does not require high real-time performance. The workshop level directly controls the production process. The corporate cerebellum is more important. "Avoiding the most important and the lighter" refers to the protocol openness of field-level industrial control equipment. If you don't start with machine networking, the enterprise cerebellum has no data to mine.
In addition, the current application of 5G in the industrial Internet also includes two misunderstandings: “emphasis on the outside and over the inside” and “externally for the inside”. He explained that "emphasis on the outside and over the inside" means that the company's machine data and sensor data are basically not out of the corporate network, but now too much attention is paid to the construction of a cross-enterprise identification system and high-quality corporate external network; It means that the 5G2C architecture is directly moved to 5G2B, which does not meet the needs of enterprise intranet and integration with OT. 5G fully connected factories are not realistic. At present, 5G is mainly applied at the field level and mostly machine vision video transmission, which has not yet entered mainstream applications.
He said that the traditional industrial Internet based on field-level industrial control equipment has multiple levels, fragmented standards, difficult IT/OT integration, and low network security.
5G not only adds alternative access modes to the field level of the industrial Internet, but also a new industrial control gateway that integrates a new generation of information technology on the basis of 5G industrial modules will promote the flat, IP, and wireless industrial Internet, and realize IT The seamless integration of /OT shows the new pattern of the industrial Internet and opens up new space for 5G industrial applications.
The 5G2C architecture is not all suitable for 5G2B enterprise application scenarios. It is necessary to deeply study the needs of enterprise networks and develop a new type of 5G2B architecture to support enterprise network applications with low latency, high reliability, and high security.
He emphasized that in the development of new 5G2B architecture and new 5G industrial control gateways, it is necessary to strengthen industry-university-research-application cooperation, based on innovation, clarifying needs, starting standards, advancing pilot projects, forming an industry, and supporting the high-quality and sustainable development of my country's industry.
