The capital Sofia, Burgas and Varna, as well as several other large cities and seaside resorts are among the first places to receive 5G services. The 5G network will expand rapidly in Bulgaria, and the company said it plans to become the leader of Bulgaria's 5G coverage by mid-2022.
Before the Bulgarian 5G spectrum auction that ended in April 2021, Bulgarian Telecom only conducted 5G trials, while rivals Vivacom and A1 launched 5G services using temporary frequency bands.
The April auction involved the 3.6GHz band raising 8.1 million U.S. dollars, Vivacom obtained the 3.7-3.8GHz band with 4.6 million lev, A1 obtained the 3.6-3.7GHz band with 4.7 million lev, and Telenor Bulgaria with 4.1 million lev Fu obtained the 3.5-3.6GHz frequency band.
In the same month, Bulgaria Telecom launched a 5G-focused information and training event, hoping to introduce the benefits of 5G to end users in detail and answer their questions about the technology. The event includes a knowledge center on the company's website, where the latest materials such as articles, video presentations and expert opinions will be released. The operator also allows users to raise 5G-related questions via email or the company's official social media account.
