The terahertz frequency band is extremely rich in frequency resources, which can support 100Gbps-1Tbps ultra-high-speed wireless communication, thereby increasing the peak transmission rate of the existing 5G by one to two orders of magnitude. Traditional electronic terahertz technology is constrained by the inherent properties of electronic devices. The parameters of high-frequency electronic devices are gradually approaching the theoretical limit, and they face a series of difficult challenges such as large transmission loss, limited frequency and bandwidth.
After more than three years of overcoming difficulties, the team pioneered a real-time transmission architecture integrating photonic-terahertz optical fibers, completed the development of a photonic-terahertz real-time wireless communication experimental system, and broke public reports that the real-time transmission rate of a terahertz communication system exceeded 100Gbps. World record, and the achievement was selected into the OFC Demo Zone, a top international academic conference in the field of optical communication in 2022. This is also the only Demo Zone paper independently completed by Chinese mainland scholars in the history of OFC terahertz communication.
It is reported that this achievement can be integrated with the existing optical fiber network, expand to form 100-1000Gbps outdoor and indoor ultra-high-speed wireless access, replace the existing mobile network and optical fiber to achieve rapid deployment, and replace the huge number of cables in the data center to significantly reduce costs and power consumption , which can be used for inter-satellite communication, integrated access to space and space, etc.
