Google OnHub router will stop software support in December next year

Google today announced that it will stop software support for OnHub routers from December 19, 2022, but the hardware can still operate normally. OnHub is a router launched by Google in 2015. It is priced at US$200 and manages various smart home devices at home through an easy-to-use APP.

One year after the router was on the market, Google launched Google WiFi, a lower-priced router that gave up some smart home functions and focused on mesh networking. Now, Google announced the end of software support for OnHub routers, and after that date, users will not be able to use the Google Home app or Google Assistant commands to control their OnHub routers. In order to help current users transition to supported hardware, Google uses a unique coupon code. Existing OnHub users can enjoy a 40% discount if they purchase the latest Nest Wifi router. If you still have one by your side, be sure to check your email. With a 40% discount, the price of a Nest Wifi router is about $101, so a one-year notice seems reasonable: if you are currently using an OnHub router, you need to deposit about $9 a month for the entire 2022. In order to replace it in December next year.
