According to a recent Mint report, Bharti Airtel raised its entry-level voice tariff plan by approximately 25% to 99 Indian rupees on Monday, and increased the tariffs of most unlimited voice packages by 20%. Through this change, Airtel aims to increase its average revenue per user (ARPU) to 200 Indian rupees and eventually to 300 Indian rupees, "to provide a reasonable return on capital, thereby achieving a financially healthy business model." Airtels The updated tariff plan will take effect on November 26. Vodafone Idea soon followed suit. According to ET Telecom, starting from November 25th, Vodafone Idea has increased the price of its entry-level tariff plan by 25%. The new plan is priced at 99 Indian rupees, providing users with 99 Indian rupees worth of airtime, 200MB of data and 1p/sec of phone bill. Vodafone Idea said in a statement that the price increase will “start the process of ARPU improvement and help resolve the financial pressures facing the industry”. And Reliance Jio announced that it will increase tariffs by up to 21% from December 1. The company has increased the pricing of its basic tariff plan of 75 Indian rupees to 91 Indian rupees, which is 9 Indian rupees lower than similar products from Vodafone Idea and Airtel. The company's other plans have carried out similar price increases, but are more affordable than the other two telecom giants. It is understood that Reliance Jio's new tariff plan will be launched on December 1, and will be provided through all existing outlets and channels.
