On October 20, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the "Economic Operation of the Communications Industry in the First Three Quarters of 2021."


The data shows that in the first three quarters, China's communications industry performed well in general. Telecom business revenue has grown steadily, and the total amount of telecom business has grown rapidly; 5G network construction and application promotion have achieved remarkable results, and the scale of users has continued to expand.

 

Specifically, in the first three quarters of 2021, telecom business revenue has grown steadily, with a total of 1108.4 billion yuan, an increase of 8.4% year-on-year, and a growth rate of 5.2 percentage points higher than the same period last year. The total telecommunications business calculated at the constant price of the previous year was 1,239 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 28%.

 

Revenue from data and internet business grew steadily. In the first three quarters, the three basic telecommunications companies completed fixed data and Internet business revenues of 192.4 billion yuan, an increase of 11.2% year-on-year, and the growth rate increased by 3.7% over the same period of the previous year, accounting for 17.4% of telecommunications business revenue, accounting for a year-on-year proportion An increase of 0.5 percentage points, driving a 1.9 percentage point increase in telecom business revenue. The completed mobile data and Internet business revenue was 487.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.9%, and the growth rate increased by 1.7% over the same period of the previous year. It accounted for 44% of the telecom business revenue, driving a 1.8% growth in telecom business revenue.

 

Revenue from emerging businesses accelerated growth. The three basic telecommunications companies are actively developing emerging businesses such as IPTV, Internet data centers, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. In the first three quarters, they completed a total of 168.1 billion yuan in emerging business revenue, a year-on-year increase of 28.8%, and the growth rate was 1.8 percentage points higher than that in the first half of the year. , Accounting for 15.2% of telecom business revenue, driving a 3.7 percentage point increase in telecom business revenue. Among them, the year-on-year growth rate of cloud computing and big data revenue reached 94.8% and 33.3% respectively.


The scale of mobile phone users has increased steadily, and the scale of 5G users has expanded rapidly. As of the end of September, the total number of mobile phone users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 1.64 billion, a net increase of 41.85 million from the end of the previous year. Among them, the number of 5G mobile phone terminal connections reached 445 million, a net increase of 247 million from the end of the previous year.

 

Mobile Internet traffic has increased substantially. In the first three quarters, the cumulative mobile Internet traffic reached 160.8 billion GB, a year-on-year increase of 35.8%. Among them, the traffic through mobile Internet reached 153.8 billion GB, a year-on-year increase of 36.4%, accounting for 95.7% of the total mobile Internet traffic. In September, the average mobile Internet access traffic (DOU) per household reached 13.36GB/household·month, a year-on-year increase of 23%, and 1.44GB/household·month higher than the end of the previous year.

 

The growth rate of mobile phone call volume slowed down, and the decline of mobile short message business volume continued to narrow. In the first three quarters, outgoing calls on mobile phones completed 1.7 trillion minutes, a year-on-year increase of 1.6%; callers on fixed phones completed 70.5 billion minutes, a year-on-year decrease of 8.6%. The national mobile short message business volume fell by 0.2% year-on-year, and the decline narrowed by 2 percentage points compared with the first half of the year; the mobile short message business revenue increased by 11.9% year-on-year, and the volume gap was narrowing.

 

The construction of 5G networks is accelerated. As of the end of September, the total number of mobile phone base stations reached 9.69 million, a year-on-year increase of 5.7% and a net increase of 377,000 from the end of the previous year. Among them, the total number of 4G base stations is 5.86 million, accounting for 60.4%; the total number of 5G base stations is 1.159 million, accounting for 12% of the total number of mobile base stations.
