Austrian A1 Telecom: Open to Huawei and ZTE on 5G

Alejandro Plater, chief operating officer of Austria's A1 Telecom, told Reuters in an interview that it was open to Chinese suppliers such as Huawei and ZTE to participate in Austria's 5G construction, Reuters reported.

"We think it's important for us to have a market where Chinese suppliers can test the performance of different networks in real time," said Alessandro Pratt. He points out that technology from China is not only cheap, but also better than its European counterparts and therefore more competitive. And he argues that the options offered to operators should be diverse and not limited to just one or two.

Austrian A1 Telecom has 25 million customers in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Belarus, Slovenia, the Republic of Serbia and the Northern Republic of Macedonia. The group already uses wireless access devices from Chinese suppliers in Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia, as well as equipment from European suppliers such as Ericsson and Nokia in countries such as Austria.

America Movil, the parent company of Austrian Telecom and Latin America's largest telecoms operator, last year declared Huawei an excellent supplier of telecommunications equipment.
