First, policy guidance has been continuously strengthened. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in conjunction with 9 departments, issued the "5G Application "Sailing" Action Plan (2021-2023), to coordinate the promotion of 5G integration applications and foster new momentum for economic and social development. The Joint Health Commission launched the "5G + Medical Health Pilot Program" to enrich the application scenarios of 5G technology in the medical and health industry and cultivate a benchmark for the development of smart medical health. Cooperate with the Ministry of Education to carry out the application pilot work of "5G + smart education" to promote the high-quality development of education enabled by 5G technology.

The second is the steady progress of network construction. The world's largest and most technologically advanced 5G network has been built. By the end of last year, the number of 5G base stations in the country exceeded 1.4 million, of which more than 800,000 5G base stations were jointly built and shared. The 5G network has covered all prefecture-level cities. The breadth and depth of network coverage in more than 98% of counties and urban areas and 80% of townships and towns has been continuously improved over the past year. In the whole year, my country's 5G mobile phone shipments also reached 266 million units, a year-on-year increase of 63.5%, showing a steady growth trend.

The third is to increase the quality and quantity of application innovation. The 4th "Blooming Cup" 5G Application Contest was held, and more than 12,000 projects were collected from nearly 7,000 participating units. The number and quality of participating projects reached a new high. 5G+4K/8K ultra-high-definition video, 5G+AR/VR and other related applications, last year's 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of experience. 5G applications in industry, cultural tourism, energy, transportation and other fields are also gradually expanding. Taking "5G+Industrial Internet" as an example, typical application scenarios such as remote equipment control, machine vision quality inspection, and production efficiency management and control have been used in mining, ports, etc. It has been deeply applied in key industries such as iron and steel, electric power, petrochemical and chemical industry, helping enterprises to improve quality, reduce costs, increase efficiency, develop green and safe, and the results are also relatively significant.
At the same time, Zhao Zhiguo pointed out that 5G still faces challenges related to breakthroughs in the technology industry, further maturity of business models, and further optimization of the ecological environment during the development process. 2022 is a critical year for the large-scale development of 5G applications. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will further implement the decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, continue to improve 5G network coverage, and accelerate the in-depth integration of 5G and vertical industries, focusing on the following aspects of work :
