Microsoft abandons the OneDrive sync support for older versions of macOS
Microsoft has announced that they will deprecate the
OneDrive client sync program on older versions of macOS. In other words, the
old version of macOS will no longer support the OneDrive client, and the
unsupported version will not be installed.
News on August 8 Microsoft has announced that they will
abandon the OneDrive client sync program on the old version of macOS. In other
words, the old version of macOS will no longer support the OneDrive client, and
the unsupported version cannot be installed.
The list given by Microsoft includes macOS Sierra 10.12
(2016) and macOS High Sierra 10.13 (2017). After all, Apple no longer supports
these versions of macOS.
Microsoft said that abandoning support for the old version
of macOS will allow them to focus their resources on new technologies and new
systems. Microsoft also emphasized: Microsoft will only support the latest
three versions of macOS. When a new version of macOS is released, Microsoft
will support the new version and the first two versions.
Starting in September 2021, users will not be able to
install existing OneDrive clients on unsupported operating systems and will
stop updating.
Although these clients can continue to be used, Microsoft
will no longer test and maintain their functions, and will no longer
investigate or fix bugs found on these unsupported operating systems.
Microsoft recommends that affected macOS users upgrade their
systems to macOS Mojave 10.14 and later, or preferably macOS Big Sur 11.0 or
later.
