NEC submarine optical cable successfully achieved the world's highest level of 800 Gbps long-distance transmission
NEC successfully conducted a long-distance field test of a submarine optical cable system using a new transmitter with the world's highest level of 800 gigabit per second (800Gbps) transmission performance.
Implementation route for field trials
This field test was conducted using the submarine optical cable "Indonesia Global Gateway (IGG)" of Indonesia's largest communications operator PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, tbk (hereinafter referred to as PT Telkom), and used NEC's latest transmission device XF3200. Through field trials, NEC implemented 800 Gbps optical wavelength division multiplexing transmission and successfully achieved the world's longest long-distance transmission of more than 2,100 kilometers.
During the trial, by using the XF3200 transmitter, the transmission capacity was increased by approximately 30% compared to the NEC products currently in use, making it an ideal device to meet the expanding international communication needs. In addition, the adoption of new designs and new technologies can save space, reduce energy consumption, and have high scalability and flexible maintenance, helping to reduce the total cost of ownership.
NEC Marine Development General Manager Inada Yoshihisa said: "Thanks to PT Telkom for its full support in achieving this world's first achievement. This achievement proves NEC's leadership in ultra-high-speed optical transmission systems. We will continue to challenge greater challenges capacity, greater flexibility and more cost-effective undersea communications.”
Toto Sugiharto, Senior General Manager of PT Telkom, said: “NEC has been an important partner for us in the field of submarine optical cable systems for many years. This field trial demonstrates NEC’s high-quality submarine optical cables. Transmission technology has been further developed to meet Indonesia’s growing communications needs.”
As the world's leading supplier of submarine optical cable systems, NEC has laid more than 400,000 kilometers of cables that can circle the earth 10 times over the past 50 years. As a reliable system integrator, NEC provides all services including manufacturing of submarine optical cables, submarine repeaters, land transmission equipment, etc., marine survey and route design, installation and laying construction, training and delivery testing. The submarine optical cable is provided by NEC subsidiary OCC Co., Ltd., and the submarine repeater is manufactured by NEC Platform Co., Ltd.
