South Korea will allocate 5G spectrum resources to non-telecom operators

On June 29,South Korea's Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology (ICTS) disclosed that it would allocate 5G spectrum to non-telecom operators to promote the development and application of 5G technology, south Korean media reported

South Korea is the world's first 5G commercial country, with 5G users accounting for more than 20% of total mobile subscribers. Previously, South Korea has allocated spectrum resources of 3.5GHz and 28GHz to SK Telecom, KT and LG U-plus for the three major telecom operators to build 5G networks. According to the information disclosed by the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology of Korea, they will provide non-telecom operators with 600MHz spectrum resources between 28.9GH-29.5GHz, which will be divided into 12 segments; It will also provide 100MHz spectrum resources between 4.72GHz and 4.82GHz in 10 segments. The spectrum allocation will be completed by the end of November and will be available to non-telecom operators for 2-5 years.
