A US company sues Apple for infringement of its Wi-Fi and cellular network patents

Recently, a company called Smart Mobile filed a lawsuit in the Texas court of the United States, suing Apple for infringing on the company's 13 patents on Wi-Fi, cellular networks and other technologies on iPhone, iPad and other devices.

Smart Mobile said that part of the patent involved is a continuation of a 1999 patent, describing devices with voice and wireless network connections, supporting dynamic switching between networks to improve signal quality, and connecting to a server to enhance functions. The company said that some of Apple's wireless technologies, such as Multipath TCP (MPTCP), MIM, etc., infringe the company's patents. MPTCP technology allows devices to use Wi-Fi and cellular mobile networks at the same time, while MIMO technology uses multiple antennas to establish connections at the same time to increase Wi-Fi speed.

The company also said that since the second half of 2015, Apple has learned about at least 8 patents and multiple patent applications filed by the company. The company tried to sell this part of the patent license to Apple through a third-party patent attorney. In the lawsuit, Smart Mobile asked Apple to compensate and prohibit the manufacture or sale of infringing products.
