Telefónica and Microsoft combine private 5G and edge computing for Industry 4.0
According to foreign media reports, Telefónica has signed an agreement with Microsoft to use its private 5G network and edge computing capabilities in industrial fields. The two parties stated that their common vision is to deploy integrated industrial-grade 5G communication and computing solutions on customer sites.
The agreement was reached between Telefónica Tech, the digital transformation arm of the Spanish operator, and Microsoft's cloud computing business Azure.
They stated that the joint Industry 4.0 solution will ensure the highest level of safety, efficiency and performance required to run mission-critical and business-critical applications. Microsoft said, "Partners like Telefónica are vital to serving the Industry 4.0 market."
A statement said: "This model accelerates the adoption of new business processes, including the concept of a smart factory, in digital equipment, intensive use of computing and artificial intelligence to promote business decision-making and data security, and has never left the enterprise.
